    What is inflammation

Inflammation is defined as the body’s reaction to a specific injury. The injury can be of any sort of damage to tissues (example: traumatic, heat, radiation, immunological, or infectious).

Upon such a reaction, the body primarily shows some peculiar signs, and those are referred to as the cardinal signs of inflammation.

There are four of such cardinal signs that are commonly seen with any sort of inflammation but there is also a fifth one.

The four cardinal signs of inflammation are:

    • Redness
    • Heat
    • Swelling
    • Pain

The fifth cardinal sign of inflammation usually comes into the picture when the injury is excessive. This fifth sign is the loss of function

Aside the cardinal signs of inflammation, the immediate response of the body to an injury which can be described as acute inflammation usually presents with three components and is referred to as the Lewis response.

The lewis response (in acute inflammation) include:

    • Flush (central red line)
    • Flare (more diffuse red area)
    • Weal (Raised area)

This means that following an inflammation (right after a tissue injury), you are likely to see a narrow line of red on the skin along where it was scratched. This is then followed by a more diffuse reddening around the area of injury and that red area later becomes swollen.

The ratio for conversion is 1:10 That is for every one (1) mg of carbimazole or methimazole, give ten (10) mg of propylthiouracil. Thus for this case 10mg of carbimazole will be equivalent to 100mg of propylthiouracil.

Schools that offer Medicine and Surgery or Human Biology in Ghana

There are a number of universities in Ghana both private and public that offer medicine and surgery or human biology. Therefore, if you want to become a medical doctor or a surgeon then you should consider applying to any one of the following schools:

    • Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi
    • University of Ghana, Accra
    • University for Development Studies, Tamale
    • University of Cape Coast, Cape Coast
    • University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ho
    • Accra College of Medicine
    • Family Health Medical School

How long will it take to become a medical doctor?

As it stands now, all the various medical schools in Ghana offer their course as a six (6) years duration program. After you are done with your final examinations which is organized by the school in collaboration with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council and successfully pass, you are qualified to work as a medical doctor in Ghana.

You will then be issued your license for the practice of medicine in any health facility in Ghana. You are, however, expected to undergo a two-year compulsory training as a medical house officer.

During these two years as a medical house officer, you will be working as a medical doctor in a hospital but under the supervision of some senior colleagues. You are expected to gain a lot of experience during this period to be able to practice on your own after this period of training.

During the training, you will be paid by the government of Ghana.

Geomatic Engineering has become a popular engineering course offered by most of the engineering schools in Ghana. Currently, the following schools in Ghana are known to offer Geomatic Engineering:

    – Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi
    – University of Mines and Technology, Tarkwa
    – KAAF University College, Accra

What is geomatic engineering all about?

Geomatic engineering is a field of engineering that has to do with the use of technology to survey the earth, generate maps and make meaning out of the data that is generated through various technologies.

It also involves the use of spatial techniques to understand, plan, organize, monitor, and manage planet earth. The spatial data and maps obtained are then used for various purposes including planning, property protection, and determining of the exact location of various resources.

Geomatic Engineering basically includes the disciplines of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Land and Engineering Surveying, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cartography, Geodesy, Hydrography, Cadastral Surveying, and Land Information Management

What do Geomatic Engineering students study?

Some of the courses that geomatic engineering students will study include:

    • Geodetic Surveying
    • Geographic Information Systems Application
    • Spatial Database Systems
    • Cadastral Surveying
    • Principles of Valuation of Land and Building
    • Cartography
    • Basic Land Surveying
    • Land Law and Registration
    • Astronomy

    What do Geomatic Engineers do?

Geomatic engineers are responsible for designing, developing, and operating systems that can be used to collect and analyze spatial data about planet earth (the land, oceans, natural resources, etc.)

What is the duration for studying Geomatics Engineering?

Geomatics engineering is offered as a Bachelor of Science degree and therefore the various institutions offer it as a standard four (4) years programme.

Yes, people make money from YouTube. As you know YouTube is an archive for videos and the creators of the videos expect to be paid for their hard work.

YouTube as a company makes money by selling advertising spots to advertisers. Then they serve these ads on videos that meet their requirements.

So for video creators, they are paid according to the number of people who see and click on the ads that YouTube puts in their videos.

However, not every video creator on YouTube is paid. YouTube has a requirement that they expect video creators to meet before they start serving ads on their videos (the policy has been changed now though).

They require that creators have a minimum of 1000 subscribers and 4000 watch hours in the past 365 days. Once a creator achieves these minimum requirements, they will apply to the YouTube partner program to get approval. After approval then YouTube starts serving ads on your videos.

That is when a creator can make money from YouTube.

Nowadays, almost everything that has to do with your studies is likely going to need a computer. But it doesn’t mean go and rob a bank to get one if you cannot afford it. There ways that you can go about it.

I have actually seen people survive without a computer even though it comes with it own challenges. If you are determined enough you can make it without a computer. Here are a few suggestions:

    1. Find friends who have some of the laptops and try and find out the times that they won’t be using their laptops like when they are asleep or gone out. Schedule your study periods which needs the use of the laptop at such times.

    2. Do not rely on only one person’s laptop. Get a minimum of about 5 people so that the likelihood of getting one whenever you need one will always be high.

    3. You can also make use of the computers in the school library. Most school libraries have computers for research, so you can make plans to go use them for your assignments or research. The challenge is that the library might close by 5:00 pm every day and may not also work on weekends. There are some schools that have introduced the 24/7 library service so if you find yourself in such a school then you are lucky.

    4. Also, some schools or faculties will have ICT labs for teaching ICT and related courses. However, they are opened to the student populace are certain times when there are no classes going on in the labs. So, find out what these times are and go there during these periods to use them.
