Pharmacy is a multifaceted profession with lots of career options. Once you obtain your degree in pharmacy and a license to practice pharmacy, the following career options are available for you even though some of them may require further education or certification:
Community Pharmacist
As a community pharmacist, you work in various retail pharmacies in the community and you usually serve as the primary healthcare giver in the community. That is to say, most people will come to you first when they are sick before they think of going to the hospital. Your responsibilities therefore includes dispensing prescriptions brought to the pharmacy, giving out over the counter medications to patient in treating diseases of common occurrences, providing counseling together with health education to your clients and community at large, and also providing first aid to all and sundry.
Hospital/Clinical Pharmacist
You basically will work in the hospital and you will be responsible for patient care especially anything that has to do with their medications including adverse reactions and the likes. As a clinical pharmacist your responsibilities include supply and monitoring of medicines, counseling, and in some circumstances you may be in charge of purchasing, manufacturing , dispensing, quality testing and many others.
Industrial Pharmacist
As an industrial pharmacist, you will work in a pharmaceutical industry and this may present you with different roles. Some of which include research, development, manufacturing, quality control and quality assurance to ensure safety and therapeutical efficacy of medications produced in the industry.
Lecturer
You can also become a lecturer and teach in pharmacy school or any health institution where doctors, nurses, pharmacists and the likes are trained.
