In order to achieve these goal of flying different types of aircraft or to become a pilot, there are a number of requirements that need to be met. Here’s some insight into how to become a pilot in South Africa.

    1. In order to get a Private Pilot license, one has to get a student pilot license first.The following are the requirements for the Student Pilot License:

    I.The student must be 16 years or older.

    II.The student should have attained a class 1 or 2 medical certificate.

    III.The student should hold an International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) language proficiency certificate (if required).

    IV.The student must have completed an aircraft technical.

    V.The student must have completed an Airlaw exam.

    VI.The student should be in possession of 2 passport photos.

    After obtain a Student Pilot License (SPL), the individual must meet the following requirements before gaining the Private Pilot License.

    I.The student must be at least 17 years old.

    II.The student should have a Valid Student Pilot Licence (SPL).

    III.The student should hold a restricted or general radiotelephony certificate.

    IV.The student must have completed 8 online PPL exams.

    V.The student must have accumulated 45 hours total flight time by the end of the course, the 45 hours must include:

    VI.25 dual hours with an instructor.

    VII.15 solo hours Pilot in Command (PIC).

    VIII.5 hours cross country PIC.

    The training academies in South Africa one can join to train includes; U-Fly, Central Flying Academy and Progress Flight Academy .
