This means that any hypertensive patient who is a minimum of three anti-hypertensive medications with at least one of them being a diuretic will be classified to have resistant hypertension.
However, it must be noted that it should be confirmed that the patient is being adherent to the therapy and the medications are being given at the right doses before such a diagnosis can be made.
